Merfolk Mead
Merfolk Mead, est. 2024. Merfolk Mead is Newfoundland and Labrador’s first commercial meadery—proudly female-led, locally rooted, and inspired by maritime myth, tradition and folklore. Our name evokes the romance of the sea and the ancient craft of fermentation. While honouring the rich tradition of mead-making, we apply modern fermentation science and methodologies to create small-batch, handcrafted premium meads using the highest quality local and Canadian ingredients. We are delighted to bring our meads to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, and to work in support and collaboration with the NL farmers, craftspeople, and artisans joining us on this journey. We use premium Canadian ingredients—including wildflower honey from Alberta and some of the purest honey in the world from right here in Newfoundland. Our fruit meads are made with locally sourced wild NL blueberries, partridgeberries and apples and the teas used in Merfolk Meads are always Canadian and often local. Small-batch production allows for a high level of care and creativity, offering nuanced flavours that highlight the natural qualities of the honey and other ingredients we use.
